Volunteer Experience

Advisor @ Built By Girls

At Built By Girls, I get to share my tech career experiences as a Quality Assurance software engineer. Three times a year, BBG Advisors like me are matched with students who are currently focusing on potential careers in tech.

During each BBG “WAVE”, we meet with students and share our real job experiences with 1 matched student. I also get to share 2 or more relevant tech industry connections with each student to help them establish their own professional network.

The goal of Built By Girls is to provide real insight and professional networking opportunities related to future careers in tech for students working towards a tech degree. It is a fresh, powerful leadership program that needs more volunteers all over the US. Please visit their website to read more.

Writer @ Women Write About Comics

At WWAC, I wrote frequently about comic books, graphic novels, media adaptations of both, and interviewed various people throughout the comic book industry. I enjoyed covering industry news, writing profiles about cool publishers and talented people, and working with the diverse and creative WWAC community.

Here is a link with the 53 articles I contributed to.

Spirits Alive

History Docent & Tour Guide @ Spirits Alive

At Spirits Alive, I had the privilege of volunteering in the summer season to support this wonderful 501(c)(3) organization. The organization does restoration, upkeep, and takes very good care of Maine’s oldest known burial site. The cemetery sits on Portland’s beautiful Munjoy Hill.

My duties at Spirits Alive included leading tours around the cemetery, soliciting patrons for the organization, and preservation of the Dead House on the cemetery land. The tours allow visitors to go in depth about the history of Portland and its predecessors. Please check out SpiritsAlive.org to find out more about this organization, or come by for a tour.

Foster Cat Host @ Humane Society Silicon Valley

At the Humane Society I fostered cats that need to adjust to a home or may be shy. In the summer of 2016 I got to foster Eleanor, a shy cat who needed some human socialization. I worked with the Humane Society to assist a cat that I could help in my quiet apartment.

It didn’t take long for this kitty to come out of her shell. Within a month she was adopted. Visit the Humane Society Silicon Valley website to find out more about becoming a foster parent!
